Sunday - Morning Prayer

Sunday – Morning Prayer

L    Lord, teach us to pray.

R    In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

Praise of the Lord

Praise the Lord for he is good,

for his mercy endures forever.

L  He sent us Jesus Christ, our Redeemer.

R  Christ’s death and resurrection is our deliverance.

L  He sent us the Holy Spirit,

R   to effect in us the Divine Life.

L   Praise the Lord for he is good,

R  for his mercy endures forever.

L    Lord our God, you have given us this new day.

Let our hearts find Light in the darkness, the Creator in the created,

the Giver in the gifts.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

R   Amen.

Reflection

A. St. Vincent Pallotti writes about the Blessed Trinity: “My God, in your infinite love you created me according to your image and likeness. You gave me a free will. Help me to use your gifts and improve myself so as to become totally your living image: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, an image of your infinite qualities and perfections.”  (OOCC X 749)

B. St. Vincent Pallotti writes in the Rule: “Immediately after rising and throughout the day all make the Sign of the Cross and renew their trust in God: to be strengthened by the power of the Father, to be enlightened by the wisdom of the Son, and to be sanctified by the love of the Holy Spirit. And as they bless themselves, they may say: Of myself I can do nothing; with God I can do everything; I want to do everything for love of God.” (OOCC II 305)

Pause

Apostolic Prayer of St. Vincent Pallotti:

L  Eternal Father, it is your will that all should be saved.

R  Great is your mercy.

Your Son, Jesus Christ, died for all.

Teach all people to recognize you and love you.

L With deep faith in Christ’s death and resurrection, we pray:

R send forth, O Lord, laborers into your vineyard, and spare your people.

L Eternal Word, Redeemer of all creation, lead all people to yourself;

R you have been obedient for all, even to death on the cross.

L Look upon the merits of your Mother and of all the angels and saints.

They intercede for us.

R Send forth, O Lord, laborers into your vineyard, and spare your people.

L Holy Divine Spirit,

Through the infinite merits of our Lord Jesus Christ,

R enkindle in all hearts your ardent love that can do all things, that all may be one fold and one shepherd, and that all may arrive in heaven to sing your divine mercy.

L Queen of Apostles and all the angels and saints, pray the Lord of the harvest.

R to send laborers into his vineyard and spare his people, that, united with him and the Father and the Holy Spirit, we may all rejoice forever and ever.

Amen.

(Angelus or Regina Coeli)

The Angelus

Introduction (optional)

L   “This is how God loved the world: he gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life” (John 3:16)

Adoring, we remember the mystery of the incarnation of the Word and we greet Mary, Mother of the Redeemer.

The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary,

R    and she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary.

L    Behold the handmaid of the Lord.

R    Be it done unto me according to your word.

Hail Mary.

L    And the Word was made flesh,

R   and dwelt among us.

Hail Mary.

L    Pray for us, holy Mother of God,

R    that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

L    Pour forth, we beseech you, O Lord, your grace into our hearts, that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ your Son was made known by the message of an Angel, may, by his Passion and Cross, be brought to the glory of his Resurrection. Through the same Christ our Lord.

   Amen.

During the Easter Season:

Regina Coeli

Introduction (optional):

L   The angel said to the women: “There is no need for you to be afraid. I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said he would.” (Mt 28:5-6)

In the joy of the resurrection, let us address our prayer to Mary, Mother of the Redeemer.

L    Queen of heaven, rejoice, alleluia.

R    The Son whom you merited to bear, alleluia.

L      has risen as he said, alleluia.

R    Pray for us to God, alleluia.

L    Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia,

R   for the Lord is truly risen, alleluia.

L    O God, you give joy to the world by the resurrection of your Son, Jesus Christ. Through the prayers of his mother, the Virgin Mary, bring us to the happiness of eternal life. We ask this through Christ, our Lord.

R    Amen.

L    Glory be…

R    As…

R    Angel of God, whom God has appointed my guardian, enlighten, protect, direct and govern me this day.

Amen.

If meditation takes place in community at this time, the following prayers may be said. Otherwise the Conclusion follows immediately.

Prayers for meditation:

Before Meditation:

L    Vincent Pallotti encourages us: To breathe God in and out.

To find God in everything. To reveal God to all.

To radiate the presence of God.

R    Father in heaven, let our hearts be totally consecrated to you.

Fill us with great love for you and for our neighbor. Let this time of meditation be a light that will enlighten our way.

Let it strengthen us so that we can serve you.

Amen.

After Meditation:

L    We thank you, Lord, for all the lights and favors which you have given us. Give us the grace to profit by them.

By ourselves we can do nothing, with you we can do everything. Because we love you, our Lord, we will do all for you.

Conclusion

L    May the Lord bless us and preserve us from all evil.

May he keep us faithful in his service.

To him be honor and glory forever and ever.

Amen.
